Wow has it been a long time

So it has been a very long time since I've written anything in lj. I've been lurking and watching and generally participating as a memeber for at least 3 years I've just never really gotten into the diary aspect of lj. I think instead of me using this space as a place to bitch about my life (unless I really need to) I'm going to use it as a place to record my observations. Things that intrigue me, things that annoy me, and things that I don't think I could live without. Let's see how it goes shall we?

Fic with Big Bugs

One of the earliest fics in McShep that I read was a really intense one where John and Rodney are in a secret relationship but they come out when one is in danger. They were exploring an ancient lab(?) offworld when either John or Rodney got trapped behind a shield because they got infected with a virus. I think there was mention of a replicator (Star Trek - not machine bugs) inside the shield.

With John or Rodney trapped behind the shield and infected the other freaks out and risks their life to get to the other exposing themselves in the process.

Carson is with them and I remember him having to go through the complex with these really nasty creatures (bugs?, bats?) and coming back covered in goo from all the dead critters.

This is a pretty old fic so it may be completely lost but I read it before I started saving fic links so I know I don't have it hidden somewhere. Anyy help would be great. Thanks!

I got a kick out of this

So I'm bored (a.k.a. avoiding working on a paper) and so I go on-line to check my e-mail. My e-mail is on Yahoo so I go through the main page when I see the Yahoo news screen and a line about the moon looking bigger this weekend. Utterly bored and slightly intrigued I click on it and while reading the article click on a hyperlink to a picture of the effect that makes the moon look bigger. Upon opening the site I was greeted with the most out of left field comment that totally took me by surprise. Here's what it said;

Why does the moon look bigger on the horizon? You might have heard it is magnified by the atmosphere just as it rises. Not so. Instead, it's your brain on Moon drugs.

WTF?

If you don't believe me or if you simply want to know why the moon looks bigger on the horizon here are the links -

http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/20070629/sc_space/saturdaysfullmoonoffersstrangeillusion

http://www.livescience.com/mysteries/060907_moon_big.html
Finals... ugh

Finals are finally over! It's a relief really... now I don't have to feel guilty with my lack of doing... well, anything. It's the 6th and tonight I go back home to good ol' NH and then it's back here again for summer quarter. Some people think I'm crazy for staying in all year round but really it will allow me to graduate a whole year early so where's the harm?

Finals sucked (as the always do). My final at 7:30am it turns out I studied for the wrong things and isn't that just peachy. It's a stats class for Poli Sci majors so it's simple but if you don't know what you're doing you're screwed. All of the HW assignments had been equations and problems solving so I focused on memorizing those and what equation should be used when. Needless to say when the final was in front of me entirely in multiple choice format asking me what the coefficient of the X to the Y is or some s**t like that I wasn't happy.

The others weren't so bad. All essay questions with one small section of multiple choice where I just know I second guessed myself too much; but in general I kick essay and short answer ass so I'm not worried. I was able to get an extension on my paper for my last class which will do wonders for my grade. What I would have turned in would be worse than the zero I would have gotten for turning in nothing. If I turn in nothing I at least have my dignity which would have gone down the toilet with the crap that was regurgitated onto the pages.

And now I am off to use the beginning of my vacation time wisely by vegging on my hugely comfy couch and putting in some old seasons of West Wing or maybe Stargate Atlantis.
